My name is Jason Givens and I have been coaching soccer for five years now. As of
now, all three of my children are playing soccer. I coach my oldest, a daughter, in
the U-12 league, and my son in the U-8 league. As of this past season, my wife has
started coaching and she now coaches our youngest daughter.
I got into coaching because I wanted to be involved in my childrens' lives and activities and because I felt like there were some coaches that were not teaching the children. (Let me state here and now that there are many excellent coaches in the Springdale Youth Center system. I am only referring to a few I have been involved with.) Since that time, I have come to love the game of soccer and I love coaching the kids even more. |

I love everything about coaching. I love the competition. I love the sport. Most
of all, I love watching the children grow and learn. The most fun I get from
coaching is seeing a child do something that they have been taught and see them
understand how to do it and how it fits into the game. There is nothing like watching
a kid have that "AHA!" moment and start to really understand and enjoy what they are
doing.
I have also been very fortunate to have great kids and great parents on my teams. Having kids that want to be there and having parents that support both the kids and the team makes a world of difference in everyone's enjoyment of the game. I am constantly studying to learn more about soccer and how to become a better coach. I have completed a state certification course. I now hold an "E" level license. I also plan on continuing my coaching education by pursuing a "D" level license within the next year. Any decisions about continued certification courses will have be decided at a later time. In addition to taking courses, I am constantly watching, and studying, soccer games. I also read books and watch videos that teach me more about the game itself and how to coach/teach children. My philosophy on coaching is very simple: Have Fun! Play Hard! Learn Something! (in that order) If everyone does that, everyone succeeds; the coaches, the team, the parents, and most importantly, the kids. |
